Problem:
My Rainbow e-series vacuum was working just perfect and then suddenly stopped working. There was no smell, no smoke and it did not make any unusual sounds. It just stopped and NOTHING. This pertains to Rainbow E2 vacuums as well. |
Possible Causes:
No power in electric outlet, bad wiring or switch, broken or no water pan, bad motor. |

Possible causes and solutions
Electric outlet may be bad - try different outlet or test the outlet with another appliance.
Damaged cord (inside) - Wiggle Rainbow cord (especially closer to the outlet) - see if it turns on occasionally; then the cord needs to be replaced.
Damaged cord (outside) - look for damage through entire length of the Rainbow cord. Replace cord if damaged.
Bad switch - press switch OFF and ON. See if it feels different than it used to. Sometimes there would be no resistance or no distinctive "click" when switch is bad.
Loose wires inside - not often but still it does happen when some wire just comes off inside of the Rainbow.
VERY POPULAR cause is broken actuator on the water pan - there is a protrusion on the Rainbow water basin (see picture 1) that, when installed on the Rainbow motor unit, presses a safety switch (see picture 2). If this protrusion is broken off or water pan is not installed at all, Rainbow vacuum will not turn on. Plastic may have been damaged some time ago so you do not have to drop the pan immediately before Rainbow vacuum functioning. See pictures below: |
