All Rainbow sweeper nozzles that have BLACK PLASTIC bottom:
Rainbow E2 series (2 speed Rainbow vacuum cleaner)gold AND blue labels.
Rainbow e series - 1 speed vacuum cleaner model with red light and red button on it
Rainbow SE Performance Edition nozzle a.k.a. PN2
Will use following brush rollers and components:
GENUINE Rainbow brush roll
This is only type of the brush roll sold by Rexair for all their vacuum cleaners made ever since 1995. If belt goes through the middle of the brush roller and carpet attachment has plastic bottom you can be assured that this is the one you need and it will fit. Only on genuine brush roll you can replace strips - beater bars without having to replace entire roller. When installing the brush make sure that when it spins forward bristles would be brushing the carpet towards the middle of the nozzle. Look for a diagram on the bottom of the nozzle (under the plate that needs to be removed to access the brush)
GENUINE Rainbow rubber belt
If the old belt is not broken it does not mean it is good. Over the time rubber stretches so belt does not grab onto the motor shaft as good and once brush meets some resistance from the carpet the shaft slips and brush spins intermittently. So it is a good idea to replace belt at least once every 2 years even if it appears to be fine.
Brush roll strip kit
This is a regular strip kit that was installed on the roller when you bought the Rainbow system (if you bought it new). Strips have to be inserted so the bristles would be facing the rug as the brush is spinning. Raised plastic on one side acts as support for the bristles. Or even better - remove old strips right before you install new and make sure you inserting them the way old ones were. New strip kit will not always make your roller like new. If it is warped and makes nozzle vibrate excessively - just replace the whole brush
Brush roll strip kit SOFT
This is the same as the kit above with exception that bristles are a bit softer so they would be very gentle on your rugs. However there are not that many rugs that need such gentle care. When bristles are softer they agitate carpet less and are not as effective as the regular bristles
Brush roll bearing and stud
When bearings wear out or corrode they either work a lot noisier or a lot more often - seize. So this is when you will have end caps melted. Sometimes they overheat so much that burn into the wooden roller and hole becomes too big to hold the stud tight. Then just get a new roller. You will need a big flat screwdriver to pull old one out and when you inserting a new one - do not pound it with a hammer - you may damage the new bearing. If you can not just push it in and have to use hammer - make sure you do not hit the bearing
Brush roll bearing boot
A small rubber nothing too complicated and technical. Considering the price - not really worth too much attention so if you have any doubts if you can reuse old ones - get pair of new just in case.
Brush roll bearing retainer shield.
This may melt if bearing overheats or if a lot of hair and carpet gets under the shield and heats up because of the friction. Any doubt if it is reusable - get a pair of new ones

AFTERMARKET brush roll to fit Rainbow SE Performance , e-series and e2 series vacuum models
Before you attempt to fix the old roller please consider the aftermarket brush. It is made by the company in Ohio that has been manufacturing rollers for original equipment manufacturers. So these guys know what they are doing. We have sold thousands and thousands of these brush rolls and we do not have customers complaining about them. Having in mind the price of this roller this may be the best option. It is not serviceable and no parts available for it but for a price of one genuine brush you can get a two of these and they will serve you just as long if not more than genuine Rainbow beater bar.
All Rainbow sweeper nozzles that have CHROME METAL bottom
(Except the very first nozzle that was made before 1987 for D2 Rainbow vacuum model that has no button and no light):
- Rainbow D3
- Rainbow D4
- Rainbow SE
They look like this (black is aftermarket). D3 model nozzles were lighter shade of brown
Will use following brush rollers and components:
GENUINE Rainbow brush roll
Originally they were maid painted brown. A few years or so ago manufacturer switched to varnished rollers. It is still the same design. This is a bit pricy so aftermarket brush is a very good alternative
Brush roll bearing
There whole bunch of things that may be bad with the brush roll and buying and replacing this bearing or both may not resolve the issue. Discussion about all possible things that can be wrong with the genuine roller would be very long and I still may not cover all cases so I highly recommend buying a whole brush and if this seems really expensive - just get the generic roller - they are pretty good.

AFTERMARKET brush roll to fit Rainbow D3, D4 and SE vacuum models
This is the same as the kit above with exception that bristles are a bit softer so they would be very gentle on your rugs. However there are not that many rugs that need such gentle care. When bristles are softer they agitate carpet less and are not as effective as the regular bristles

Very first carpet nozzle that Rexair maid for Rainbow vacuum cleaner
It was sold with or for the all metal Rainbow sweeper. They were creme / ivory color. W heels are about 3 or so inches apart whereas on newer nozzles they are about 13 inches apart so this is easy to see.
Before you click on picture and see the price - make sure you are sitting down. They are this expensive.
There 2 kinds of there rollers and only difference seems to be in the size of the pulley so measure and buy the right one for your nozzle
